We are a funded startup looking for Flash help to build a killer demo. We are new to taskcity, but should be able to convince you of our bonafides. We are software guys ourselves, and you will enjoy specifications that are unambiguous.

We have posted a $1000 budget number here, but that may be too high or too low. We encourage you to bid what you think is a reasonable number. We want high-quality, fast work from a motivated person (or crew).  If you do well on this, we will have plenty of other projects in the future.


1. TextScroll Widget

We want a chunk of Flash code that renders text inputs in a bounded rectangle as a Flash layer. This layer will be integrated into another Flash application. 

The goal is to render text in a Flash animation in a cool, retro style that's featured in the movie Wargames and the computer game DefCon.

The text will be rendered as an independent transparent layer in Flash. It will be integrated into a Flash application that will do mapping and animate missile trajectories similar to how DefCon works. We'll be using this as a sort of operational dashboard. Your work will get some exposure.


1. Basic Text Rendering

Key characteristics of the rendering:

1. Transparent Background. This is an overlay of text that will be placed upon existing backgrounds, that will almost certainly be black.

2. Cursor appearance. This is an attempt to mimic the look and feel of 70's and 80's era monochrome terminals. These all had rectangular cursors. The Cursor should be rendered as DefCon does it, moving to the right and producing each character individually. Each time the cursor moves one space, it should (optionally) make a sound. The combination of these sounds produces the electronic chirping that you can hear in DefCon.

 
3. Scroll Mode.  The "from_bottom" mode can be seen on the title page of Defcon. It simulates rows of monochrome characters being added from the bottom one at a time. All of the other lines scroll up in quantized units that are one row in height. The "from_top" mode means what it says. If the text in the from_top mode reaches the bottom of the bounding rectangle, the text begins scrolling up.
 
Action Support:
the widget should support Start and Erase commands. An Erase command causes any scrolling/rendering in progress to stop.
